| What is a LED? |
| A LED is a light emitting diode. A diode is a semiconductor only allows electrical current to flow in one direction. Therefore an LED consists of two elements: P-type semiconductors and N-type semiconductors. These 2 elements are connected to each other forming a P-N junction. As electrons pass between the P and N elements and transition to different energy levels, photons of light are given off. |
| Are LEDs safe for use in the home? |
| LEDs are completely safe to be used inside the home. LED light bulbs do not contain mercury and are 100% safe to the environment. |
| Where are LEDs used? |
| LEDs can be used anywhere. They are a great replacement for incandescent light bulbs and fluorescent light bulbs. LED bulbs make great replacements for every light in your house especially those bulbs that are hard to replace. LED light bulbs typically have a life span of over 30,000 hours.. |
| Can LEDs be used in fully enclosed light fixtures? |
| LEDs can be used in fully enclosed light fixtures. Most LED light bulbs do not generate the heat like incandescent and fluorescent bulbs. |
| Can LEDs be used in outside? |
| LEDs can be used outside as long as they have been approved for outdoor use and that the operating temperature can handle the outdoor temperature variation. |
| Can you dim LED light bulbs using a dimmer switch? |
| In order to use a LED with a dimmer switch, the bulb must be a dimmable LED light bulb. Dimmable LED bulbs are designed specifically for the use with dimmer switches. We highly recommend not using regular LEDs with dimmer switches as it can damage the internal electronics and cause hazard. |
| Can LEDs be used with electronic timers and photocells? |
| Its not recommended that LEDs be used with photocells or electronic timers. Due to the power consumption of the bulbs, they might not work with some photocell controls. If used with a timer or photocell, the LED bulbs might not turn off or blink. Blinking can cause damage to the bulb and result in premature failure. |
| Why do LED light bulbs cost more than CFL light bulbs? |
| The cost of a LED light bulb includes development costs, manufacturing costs, and materials, all of which are being lowered as more bulbs are being manufactured. The energy savings associated with each LED will quickly cover its initial cost, because it will last over 30,000 hours and use signicantly less energy. |
